Vice Adm. Carl V. Mauney, USN


Deputy Commander, United States Strategic Command

Admiral Mauney is the deputy commander, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). USSTRATCOM provides a broad range of strategic capabilities and options for the president and secretary of defense. Command mission areas include full-spectrum global strike, space operations, computer network operations, Department of Defense information operations, strategic warning, integrated missile defense, global C4ISR, combating weapons of mass destruction, and specialized expertise to the joint war fighter. Mauney's previous assignments include director, submarine warfare; commander, Submarine Group 8/Task Force 69; and commander, Allied Submarines Naval Forces South, NATO. Mauney also served as deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, as director of plans and operations for U.S. Naval Forces Europe/U.S. 6th Fleet. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Chaminade University. He is a graduate of the Navy Executive Business Program at the University of North Carolina.
